Aerobics/running in place bad for joints?

Question
Hi Kim,
Is it alright to run in place for 30-40 minutes a day 5-6
days a week for cardio on carpet (with running shoes)? I've
just started a workout plan, & I'm wondering if running in
place is a good substitute for running on a treadmill or
outside.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Lynn, sure running in place is fine if you don't have any joint problems.  If you do have joint problems, running (in and of itself)may not be the best option.  Assuming you don't have joint problems, it should be fine.  To be perfectly honest, it sounds a little boring though.  Can you mix it up every now and then and run outside, use the elliptical or the treadmill?  I think that running in place should be one of your last resorts because of the boring nature of it!

I hope that helps, thanks for the question.
