Question
Hi Michele....I'll be 60 in 2011 and I've just joined a gym again. I've been on and off with my exercising over the last 30 years but I was a recreational runner back in the mid 80's and remember how good that felt. Recently I've been doing 45 minute workouts on the treadmill with a little bit of jogging and a lot of brisk walking while I increase the incline as I move through my workout. What is better for my body......brisk walking on an incline or trying to get back into a running regimen? I don't have any problems with my knees. How many days per week should I be working that treadmill?

How are you?

1. Always consult with your medical doctor about your medical doctor.
2. Hire a degreed, certified personal fitness trainer who specializes in walking and running to help you with your goals.
3. The million dollar question is which exercise is better for your body. Well, the best exercise is the one the your medical doctor tells you that it's OK to do. Also, it the one that you LOVE and can perform SAFELY. Incline and running is overall harder on the body but if this is the exercise of your choice, make sure you always include a warm up, post-cardio cool, and final cool down stretch. Also, make sure you a great walking and/or running shoe (See a foot specialist about select a great shoes and if you need any additional things based on your foot structure.


I'm so happy so another 55+ person so physical active.
