Question
Hi Linda:

I recently became a certified zumba instructor after having taken zumba classes once a week for awhile.  I do not have a dance or fitness background.  I am just looking for a fun way to get in shape and help others do the same.  I would like to be able to teach zumba in health clubs, but they require AFAA certification and other certifications.

Can you tell me what AFAA certification is, and how to go about getting certified?

Thanks!

Sue

Answer
Hi Sue,
I suggest you look online at AFAA and ACE (American Council on Exercise) to find out how to become certified.  AFAA does a practicum and is easier to get certified through.  ACE is a really good one as well and IDEA (international dance exercise association) is a good association to join.  They have annual conventions that bring everything together.  This year it is in San Diego.
Good luck!
Linda
