QuestionDear Sir
1. Is it OK to have a cold shower after a workout or running session? Its winter here...so would it be OK if I take a bath in this cold weather right after exercise? Due to circumstances beyond my control, I cannot get myself warm water early in the morning. If its not advisable to have a cold shower right after a workout or cardio session, how long should I wait post-exercise before I take a cold shower?
2. I've heard that a cold bath improves circulation & prevents cold. Is this true?
3. Is it true that exercising early in the morning on an empty stomach is a bad idea? I'd love to exercise early in the morning and its easier to make it into a habit. Plz tell me what to do. If I mustt eat/drink anything, plz recommend some things. Corn flakes?
4. Right after exercise (a workout or running session), how long should I wait before I eat or drink anything?
5. After a meal, how long should I wait before I start exercising?
Thanks a lot. Regards Elijah:)
AnswerHello Elijah,
You can take a hot or cold shower after exercising as long as you can tolerate it. I have never heard of better circulation or preventing colds from cold showers. That's a question for your medical Dr.
It always helps to have some carbs to draw energy from before working out. It needs to be light and something like a piece of fruit or toast is good. It is important to eat complex carbs within 20 minutes after a workout. That restores the glycogen to your cells.
If you eat alot and feel very full then I wouldn't suggest working out until you digested most of it. It would be very uncomfortable otherwise. It's a myth about having to wait a certain time. Do what is comfortable for you.
Good luck and hopefully you will get warm water for your showers in the morning.
