Aerobics/Hula Hoop Exercise

Question
Hello, my sons 4th grade teacher told me that doing the Hula Hoop for 10 minutes is equivalent to running an 8 minute mile.  Is this true or just another wise-tale passed down?  I have been doing this for the last couple days but can not seem to get my heart rate up to my target rate.

Answer
Hi Brandy Dean,
Great question.  Go to this website and see for yourself.  You may like this website for other activities as well.  Just put in your weight and the minutes. It will calculate your caloric expenditure for 222 activities.

For my weight, I got 154 calories burned for a 9 minute mile and 56 calories for children's games (which I would consider hula hoop) for 10 minutes of exercise in each.
