Question
Hi,
I love to do the hula hoop and I'm quite good at it.  Is there any good way to use it in a workout?  Does using a hula hoop tone your abs or do any good at defining muscle?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Hulahooper,

Keep on wigglin.  It's burning a few calories if you keep it up continuously and it gets you breathing harder than normal. Burning fat off the body is what defines muscle, and other activities that require you to breathe hard (like running, swimming, biking, hiking, etc) are more effective for burning fat.  It uses the ab muscles only moderately.

But there's nothing wrong with hula hoop.  It's not the most effective calorie burner, but if it's fun for you and you like to do it, keep on wigglin.
