Question Hi Ken! I have a question about low-impact aerobics. I am 5'11", weigh about 165 lbs, and have mild Crohn's disease which is in remission. I walk about 20-30 minutes a day but would like to add some additional exercise a couple of times a week to help me feel stronger and look more toned. My job and bus commute involve a lot of sitting and I am looking a little flabby in my upper legs and hip area in spite of the walking.
I am interested in aerobics but am concerned because I have a moderate amount of arthralgia in my large joints (primarily in the hips, knees, and ankles), so I am looking for something low-impact to try. I love music and dance and would be happy to incorporate that if there is a way to do so without upsetting my joints too much. Do you have any suggestions about an activity that I might try, video to look for, etc?
Answer Thanks for your email. Glad you're interested in being more active. You will need to try various workouts to see what feels good to your body. Most workout videos show different levels of intensity, modifications and other movement options. Richard Simmons, Kathy Smith, Tamilee Webb and the other fitness celebrities all have good programs. It's a matter of who's personality you enjoy and what exercise programs will be comfortable for you. Rent them all until you come across some you like. (We carry some Richard Simmons Broadway workout videos and the Time-Life Medical video series: www.kenfitness.com).
Hope this helps.

Very helpful! I have used the Time/Life "Stress and Anxiety" video but wanted to find an additional one to add some variety. I will see what I can find from the recommended group of video teachers. Thanks for the suggestions!
