Aerobics/Overdoing it?

Question
Kim
I am 50,about 30 pounds overweight.
I got myself a good stationary bike a few weeks ago.
I used to pedal 20-30 minutes three times a week but wasnt losing weight,It wasnt until I went to 60 minutes 7 days a week that I am starting to notice a bit of fat melting off.
I really look forward to doing it.I dont have any interests or hobbies besides work, and if I am not at work or pedalling I am on the couch.
I watch TV while I pedal and the time goes by fast.I dont push myself I just go at a moderate pace.I used to run on a treadmill which left me sore, but the bike doesnt effect me at all.
My wife thinks I am overdoing it.
What do you think?

Answer
Hello-
Congratulations for stepping up your exercise regimen to get results!  Sometimes increasing the duration of your activity is exactly what is needed to start dropping the pounds.  A stationary bike is a great way to get the benefits of cardiovascular exercise without incurring much risk for injury or soreness in your joints.

As for the time that you are spending on the bike, 60 minutes everyday isn't necessarily too much, but you should give your body a day or two of rest.   You could take a break on the weekends for instance, and really watch what you are eating on those days.  The body does need to time to recover, and you don't want to over do it.  Just be sure to get right back on track on Monday!

Thanks for the question, I hoped my answer helped.
