Question
Ken
I would like to get more lower body strength and flexability for skating(hockey) and also soccer.
I am male,46.I have never had much lower body strength or flexability.I have rather short stubby legs-not an atheletes lower body.
I do work out, mostly on a treadmill and exercise bike.I do a bit of weight lifting-deadlifts and squats.
This has helped a bit,but I though you may have a few suggestions. Thanks!

Answer
Good question.

I'd suggest to include a step machine and/or elliptical trainer into your cardiovascular mix, alternating with your bike and treadmill workouts.

Lunges are very good for hockey players. Get together with a qualified personal trainer for one or two sessions to set you up on a program and make sure you are doing the exercises correctly.  There are many types of lunge exercises that can be done.  A trainer can also show you stretches to increase your flexibility.

It's worth the cost if you're serious about improving your fitness and your game.  Let me know if you need assistance in finding a qualified trainer in your area.

Hope this helps, and keep up the exercise you're already doing.
