Question Hi Mrs. Banning,
I am anticipating purchasing a motorized treadmill to use when the weather is bad or when conditions limit my walking outside.
I would like to stay in the $400.00 to $600.00 price range. Can I get a fairly reliable one in this price range at Wal-Mart or any other stores? If not, where should I look? Are used ones in the classifieds usually a good buy?
Also, are there any things such as types of motors or other technical things which I should be wary of when purchasing one? Thank you very much!
Sincerely,
Mike Eidson, Lac.
Answer Sorry, Mike, This question is a bit outside of my expertise. I've never been in the position of having to purchase a treadmill. I usually work with fitness centers that already have cardio machines. From talking to people who have purchased home models, I can tell you a few things though. Treadmills tend to be high-maintenance, so you should go for the best quality you can afford. Check the web for quality comparison. There is a website called epinions.com where I go for quality and price comparisons on almost everything you can imagine. Also, make sure there is a good warranty. If an extended warranty is offered, you might want to look at that too.
I have been fortunate to have spent most of my life in warm climates. I was forced to resort to a treadmill a few times when we lived in D.C. for a few years. It was pretty tough. Are you sure it wouldn't be better just to join a local fitness center so you could use a variety of machines. Spin classes are great too!
Good luck in whatever you decide. Just be sure to do your homework before you buy.
