Question
QUESTION: Hi. I was just wondering if it's necessary to wear running shoes if just working out on an elliptical machine? I've always heard that it's good to have supportive shoes even if you're on an elliptical or treadmill.

ANSWER: Good question.  On a treadmill, yes it is important to have good supportive and cushioned running shoes.  On elliptical trainers, it is not as critical.  You have no impact as you do when you walk or run.  If you are overly pronated or supinated though, you should wear appropriate running or walking shoes because the shifting of body weight from leg to leg can aggravate such conditions.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: So, if someone doesn't have those conditions then what type of shoes should they wear on an elliptical?

Answer
I would still recommend a good cross=trainer, walking, or running shoe.  To get to the machine, you have to walk, jog, or run.  Might as well have good shoes underneath you.  It't the one piece of equipment (your feet) you should not subject to cheap protection.
