Aerobics - get a slim thigh and legs

Expert: Linda Erwin, M.S. - 12/21/2007

Question
Hi! I am 5 foot 4 and 100 lbs, I am pretty skinny on my upper body, but I have a big thigh and fat legs. How to I get slim and long without building muscle or looking bulk?
Thank you!!

Answer
Hi Sherry,
It sounds like you are even underweight for your height.  Because your body shape is heavier on the bottom, I would recommend that you do weights for your upper body so you will be more symetrical.  Doing aerobic activity will help you tone your legs and burn any fat that might be on them.  It's very difficult for women to build bulk so don't worry about that.  You can jog, use the crosstrainer, cycle, swim, or walk for 30-45 minutes 4-5 times per week and you will see a difference in 6 wks.  You might want to take your measurements and body fat first so you can see the difference later.  Weight training 3 x a week will really help your upper body.
Good luck!
Linda
