Aerobics/treatment for shin splints

Question
Hi Ken,
I read your great answer to "Kim" regarding treatment for "shin splints", but I was wondering if you could advise about icing the injured area as part of the treatment.
Thanks so much!  I've read your stuff for years, and I was pleased that your name came up in a Google search.

Answer
Icing the shins may bring temporary relief or reduce the discomfort.  Avoid putting ice directly on the skin; rather, place a towel or other piece of clothing over the shins first.  Ice for up to 15-20 mins at a time.  Unlike other injuries, there may not be much swelling with shin splints, which is why some people find it doesn't benefit them as much as they thought it would.  Certainly worth a try, though.

Hope this helps.  And thanks for your nice words.
