I can only speak for the U.S.  In this country, high school students with good grades in math, science, and the SAT exam can enter engineering school.  Students study all manner of math, physics, chemistry, fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and much more.  An aeronautical engineer would have to study for at least 4 years, probably 5 or 6 to get a degree and find a job.  Starting salaries are around $60,000.  Good eyesight is not a requirement.
