Starting salaries depend on many factors such as your academic performance, job experience, economy, geographic location, type of job, etc.  Generally speaking, a B.S. degree should get you a starting salary between $50,0000 and $60,000 per year.  A graduate degree would add to that.  From then on, salary growth depends on job performance, time on the job, career path and more that can get you a salary well over $100,000 per year.

An aeronautical engineering degree would be a big help to a pilot. He would know what makes the plane fly.  But I suspect a stronger factor would be flying experience such as that obtained by military pilots.
