Question
Hello, Im doing International Baccalaureate and need to decide very soon about my future career, I notice you do not want to answer this kind of question, but please, I need your help.

Firstly, is there a big different between aerospace engineering and aeronautical engineering?

Second, due to downturn of world economics right now, which one are you prefer. Mechanical engineering major in aeronautical or straight away to aeronautical engineering

I really need your help.. thanks

Answer
There is no big difference between aerospace and aeronautical engineering.  The first refers to flight in air and space, the second to flight in air.  Because the first is more inclusive it is more popular. But since 95% of aero engineering courses deal with physics in the atmosphere, the space part of the program is very small.  I would feel comfortable studying either subject knowing that I could work in either air or space as long as I took a few courses or read a couple books on orbital mechanics and rocket physics if my job required it.

There are many more jobs in mechanical engineering than in aeronautical engineering.  But aeronautical engineering generally pays more.  Aeronautical engineering jobs, however, are often in the defense industry which often requires citizenship and security clearance in the country in question.  Check the Boeing website, for example, to see job requirements.  The more important question in what field would you like to work for the rest of your life.  You may as well pick something you are really interested in because that is the subject you will be most successful at.
