Aeronautical Engineering/Jet Fighter Planes

Question
Even though I like to call them Jet Fighters, why has this phrase been reversed to Fighter Jets?, and will it ever resort back to being called Jet Fighters again?

Answer
I call them jet fighters. Originally, a fighter was the term for a type of aircraft, and we had piston-engine fighters and jet fighters.  But even in the Wikipedia article on jet fighters you see the term fighter jets. Either seem acceptable, and I am not sure which is more common.  Jet fighters works for me.
