QuestionHi, i am in 12th grade and am trying to explore a new field. Aeronautical Engineering seemed interesting so i was wondering if you could tell me what kind of training/education you need for this career field. And also can you provide a job description, because i don't quite know what they do on the job. Thank you for your time.
AnswerMike
Aero Engineers study lots of math and science in engineering school. The early years are similar to that of most engineering students - classes in physics, chemistry, electrical systems, strength of materials, kinimatics, engish, history, calculus, differential equations, and so on. During the later years they delve into fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, structural design, orbital mechanics, elasticity, thermodynamics, supersonic flow, propulsion, computer coding, and other studies depending on their interests. I enjoyed those years.
Job descriptions are quite varied, but generally speaking aero engineers are called upon to solve technical problems, design new devices, and generally improve the technology of the company or agency. This involves finding out what others have done in a particular technical area, making computer simulations, doing experiments, analyzing data, testing prototypes, and reporting your results to others. It can be challenging, but a lot of fun. Good luck.
