Question
what is the basic point of difference between mech. engg. and aeronautical engg.?
also what is their respective field of work????

Answer
Hi Rajat

Aeronautical engineering (often also referred to as aerospace) is a specialist field of mechanical engineering. Mechanical covers all aspects of engineering that are not electrical or electronic. Aeronautical covers those aspects of mechanical engineering that relate to aircraft, missiles, space and (sometimes) other military applications such as armoured vehicles, although technically not aeronautical in nature.

Obviously, the primary job market for aeronautical engineers in in the aircraft and guided-weapons industries, but mechanical engineers can work in most engineering industries, including the aerospace industry. Companies like engine manufacturers are likely to employ a large number of mechnical engineers. Others, like aircraft manufacturers, may prefer the more-specialised education of aeronautical engineers. Also, organisations like Formula 1 teams also often employ aerospace engineers, as they have more experience with the materials used in F1, as well as subjects like aerodynamics.

When choosing the discipline for study, you should think whether you definitely want to enter the aerospace industry. If so, study aerospace; if you are not sure, study mechanical.

I hope this answers your question.

Ray
