why does steven have scarfs on his mic

In the early 70's, Steven Tyler started putting scarves on his microphone to hide the drugs that he had in there from the audience. Steven's been clean since 1987. However, since the scarves became a trademark of the band, Tyler has chosen to leave them on his microphone.
