Question
what is aircraft maintainance enginnering?

Answer
Aircraft maintenance engineering applies to many areas of aircraft maintenance. From designing the specials tools needed for service to the study of data to perform routine and/or unscheduled maintenance inspections. Mechanics perform the service from which the engineers have determined is necessary and when. Most commercial carriers have their own engineering departments. For them it's for getting the best performance and service from their aircraft at the lowest cost. These engineers study failures and time studies to get the most service from the aircraft structures and powerplants above and beyond what is required by the law. Hope this gives you an idea of what they do.
