Question
I am an A&P Mechanic for an airline, and I was charged with a DUI a day ago and I can't remember if I am required to disclose this information to the FAA.

Answer
Hi,

I believe that where disclosure is important for the FAA is when you apply for or hold a Medical Certificate with via the FAA.  So, if you are ALSO A PILOT, you MUST report a DUI conviction.  As a mechanic ONLY, no, you do not have to report......

Where disclosure might be important is with your employer.  Many companies have employee wellness programs that are required for employees who report or have a DUI.  If your company is unionized, and you are in a union, what I would do is check with your union representative regarding your legal requirements for disclosure with the company or with the FAA, just to be sure.  If there is no union or the union is not helpful, you might also seek legal counsel or advice on this just to be sure.  There are lawyers that specialize in aviation matters and can be found via any search engine on the internet.
