Aerospace/Aviation/Speed of sound

Question
Has and can the speed of sound be broken in the prop plane?

Answer
While it is not impossible, I do not believe it has been done...  most prop planes don't have enough power to overcome the shock losses associated with supersonic flight...

You'd probably have to be in a steep dive and then it would be quite risky in that the shocks forming on the airplane could result in loss of control authority...

I do know that the p-38 (I believe) was an WWII aircraft that when put into a dive could encounter shock formation on the control surfaces such that there was little or no recovery (nicknamed the widow maker as I recall)...
