Question
Although i live in Canada, i think that my question is relevant. Im interested in a career as a pilot, eventually flying for a major airline. My question is regarding what kind of college/university degree is preferable or required by the airlines? Would a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science be equally recognized? Or would it be a better idea to specialize in aeronautics or areas more closely realated to the industry?

Thank you for time.

Well, if the airlines in Canada are like the airlines in the USA then......

1) My question is regarding what kind of college/university degree is preferable or required by the airlines?

Most major airlines prefer, if not require, a bachelors
degree in any subject of their applicants.

2) Would a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science be equally recognized?

Yes. A degree is required as it implies the pilot candidate has the ability to study, can apply themselves and has developed critical thinking skills.

3) Or would it be a better idea to specialize in aeronautics or areas more closely related to the industry?

You can major in aviation if that is what interests you but it is not necessary. In fact, some think it is better to get a non-aviation degree in case you are ever furloughed during your career so you have something to fall back on while out of work.
