Aerospace/Aviation/Cluster plane crashes

Question
During the search for Steve Fossett... I noticed there were areas where several old plane wrecks were found fairly close together.
Why in your opinion.. would there be more planes going down in a specific area and what would cause it?

Answer
Assuming that we're not talking about the Bermuda triangle :), I can only hazard a guess. I'm not aware of any particular areas that are more dangerous than others, but it may be that mountain winds play a part. Those would be the samme winds that sailplanes use to travel miles and get great lift from. Density altitude may also play a part.
I hope this helps. I'll have to look into this question a little deeper, myself!
