Question
why did boeing the aicraft maker make 707/727/737/747/757/767/777 aicraft but did not have a 717 aircraft

Answer
Hi,

As you know, Boeing DID build a Boeing 717 aircraft, but, it was a re-numbered McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft MD-95 aircraft....built after MDC was taken over by Boeing.

As to why they skipped over the 717 number originally in their numbering, I am not sure.  You might go to the Boeing website at www.boeing.com and either search the website for this or ask this question via their website.

Best wishes,
