Question
Respected Sir,
I am bit confused about the detailing of the question pls help.

1.Can attirmative action programs be useful in recruitment? Please Explain.

2.Why should managers undergo diversity training?

Answer
Hello,

Affirmative Action is a vague term used to cover a wide variety of practices.  In the sense of being used to reach a wider portion of potential applicants, it certainly can be of benefit.  A large more diverse pool of applicants increases chances of finding better employees.  When an employer reaches out to communities that have been largely untapped, may be more likely to find new resources of people.  To the extent one considers affirmative action an effort to give preference to people from underrepresented groups, my view is that is usually a mistake.  Employers should be looking for the best possible applicants, regardless of race, ethnicity or other characteristics.

Diversity training can be useful to make managers conscious of different attitudes or other things that might cause unnecessary friction in the workplace.  If managers are sensitive and aware of the diverse needs of their employees, it can help to head off problems early and keep people focused on work.  However, the quality of diversity programs vary greatly.  Many programs are really a form of politically correct indoctrination sessions that are of little value.

I hope this helps!
