Question
I am having a problem with a family who resides in my neighborhood. My son recently had an altercation with this families child,in wich their child choked my son to the point of vommiting.Ever since the altercation, that childs parents have been photographing my children, home, and car. This childs father is also employed by the local sherriffs office,so needless to say,no one is taking this seriously.I believe that this is my home and they have no right to come upon my property or harass my children regardless who he works for.I really dont know what else can be done to protect our rights, since the local police will not take me seriously.Any information you can direct me to will be greatly appriciated.

Answer
Hi Melissa,

Sorry to hear about your difficulties.  Unfortunately, I cannot provide specific legal advice in this forum.

But it sounds to me like you should consult with an attorney in your area about getting a protective court order to keep these people off your property and away from your family.  It won't win you any friends, but the police will know you are feeling threatened by these actions and that you are willing to enforce your rights.

If you cannot afford a lawyer, you may want to contact your local ACLU or Legal Services Corp. to see if they can provide legal assistance.  Most police departments also have a department of internal affairs to report police misconduct.

Good Luck!
