About David Dickeson, A.S.
Expertise
At age 33, I began to worry about "turning 40." I decided to do something - anything! - before I was 'over the hill' in life and health. I figured that once you turn "age 40," life was 'over,' and you spend the next 40 years rapidly aging and "falling apart." If you were lucky, the 'blessing' of death would come before it was too late!! I am now 56 (May, 08!) and I am enjoying life more than I ever had. How wrong - mentally - I was! When I became STRONGER - physically - everything got better for me. "Growing old" is NOT a 'natural process.' It is a terrible disease you have to FIGHT each day.

Experience
Proper exercise is the answer to "aging well." I have been exercising for 23 years and I have 'first-hand' experience at to what works, and what does not. Especially for older people like myself. Good health does NOT come from sitting in a stuffed chair, 'weightlifting' by lifting soup cans and watching "Murder She Wrote..." This was advised to me by a federal agency for aging seniors! GIVE me a BREAK!! You can also find me on Allexperts under weightlifting and "how to get what you want in life."

Question
David
I am 49,but have been told I look older, probably because my hair went from golden brown and thick and curly to bright white and 'salt and pepper' on the top,and stiff and kinky in just a couple years. Whats up with that?
Why do some guys my age, although they may look older facially, still have youthfull hair?
BTW,facially I look good.
Also,I am sure you recommend exercise and a healthy diet. I am following that path. But what about suplements, other than vitamins?
I am taking DHEA which I THINK is giving me more energy. My libido has also increased. What about L Carnosine?
Thanks!
The hair thing still bugs me though-maybe its genetic-all those old English rockers I have gone to see (Iron Maiden,Stones, etc) still have lots of hair!

Answer
Hello Bud

the chemical that makes our hair color, which also makes our skin color, eye color, etc., is controlled entirely by genetics. When genetics turns off the chemical, our hair goes grey, and then white.

People who decide to let their hair go grey and "grow old naturally," look YEARS OLDER than their actual age. And everyone goes grey at different ages. My wife went completely grey at age 21!

My turn was age 45.

Both of us use hair coloring. I do not use 'men's' hair coloring as they use lead in the coloring process. Lead is absorbed through the skin and lead is very toxic. Avoid the cheap hair color products, the higher priced ones are worth the money. They last about 3-4 weeks.

Unless you are loosing hair, which there is prescription products (not over the counter, those are worthless!) to help keep your hair, enjoy your hair as long as it is growing. I am lucky to avoid any baldness, at age 57. Still "hanging in there." Exercise DOES help keep your hair longer. I massage my head for a few minutes every day.

The only vitamins worth taking, at this time; D, and C. Multi are really not necessary, especially high doseage multi's.

If DHEA is working for you, with no side affects, keep using it. Have not heard anything bad, or good, about L Carnosine.

Rockers have long hair, which is styled to cover up any bald spots. And they exercise a LOT with all their shows. Exercise does help. Some have wigs, expensive wigs. The Rolling Stones are amazing. Somebody forgot to tell them that they are REALLY OLD GUYS!!

Thanks for the question. Hope this helps.
