Agriculture - urea alternative

Question
Is poultry manure a suitable organic fertilizer alternative to urea on pineapple?

Answer
Yes, for example see the Sri Lankan site: http://www.agridept.gov.lk/institutes_sub_more.php?id=20&mMenu=Horticulture&sMen...(FCRDC%20)

where it says
Pineapple
Effect of well decomposed poultry manure and cattle manure on growth of pineapple was compared with DOA chemical fertilizer recommendation. There was significant yield increase of 9.2 t/ha, when cattle manure was applied at 30 t/ha in the first 12 months period of harvesting of the mother crop. Moreover there was significant yield increase of 6.5 t/ha when poultry manure was applied at 40 t/ha over during the same period of harvesting of the mother crop. However during the 2nd year cattle manure and poultry manure applied at 20 t/ha gave yields comparable to that of DOA recommended fertilizer.

The very important point to remember is that, as it says above, poultry manure has to be well composted before application. Fresh poultry manure gives off gases which will scorch plants
