Subject: Spreading Ivy

Question
My fence ivy has spread through the lawn.....We are cutting it to the ground.

What is the best chemical to kill the roots and prevent it from spreading?

What is the periodic re-spraying intervals to keep it in check?

I live in Sacramento CA 95826.

Tnx, Raphael

Answer
Raphael
Let your ivy vine, that you want to kill grow to about two feet long. By then you should have enough leaf area to absorb ROUND-UP. Lay the ivy on a piece of newspaper and spray the ROUND-UP just on the ivy. This is an contact weed and grass killer. The leaves will absorb the spray and take it to the roots and kill the plant, so there is only one spraying that needs to be done. As a precaution cut the roots between the established ivy on your fence and the ivy that is growing on your lawn. This will stop the ROUND-UP from killing the ivy that is on the fence. You should be able to purchase ROUND-UP at a garden supply store.
Good luck, Richard
