Question
i have 4 hens and 1 rooster all about 12 months old. 1 hen is broody but the eggs don't seem to be fertile. should i try a new rooster.

Answer
Dear Dave,
If you are north of the equator, now is an unusual time for a hen to be broody.  I'm not familiar with any natural hatchings this time of year.  Now, if you are in a warmer climate and it is the usual time for chicks to hatch, I'd suggest a new rooster.  Does the rooster crow and chase the hens?  Considering the fact that "broodiness" is a passing thing, you may try obtaining fertile eggs from a local farmer and put them under your brood hen.
If it's the season for chicks where you are located, then I'd suggest a new rooster.
Kind Regards,
