Question
I hope you can help me with my question please. A year ago we had a high efficiency Carrier heat pump installed. I keep the filters changed regularly I use Filtrete Allergen reduction filters. My son and I have been sick alot with upper respiratory infections. I feel like the problem is our heat pump. When installed we had them use hard ductwork with the white/yellow insulation wrapped on the outside. Flex ducts going to the vents. I have noticed a whole lot of dust in our house and particles are blowing out of my vents. With the insulation being wrapped on the outside of the ductwork could it be getting in somehow? What could the particles coming out of my vents be? If I need someone to come look at my heat pump who would you suggest? I don't feel like I can trust the people who installed it. Do I need a home inspector, Air quality inspector, duct cleaning person,or a different heat pump person. I just want to make sure my son is not breathing something bad. The one air quality person we called told us it would be $1800.00 or more and then the tests make come back inconclusive. I hope you can help me.

Answer
#1 get in touch wth your medical physician.  #2 I'd get in touch with an American IAQ council certified indoor environmentalist, or certified microbial investigator.

The first and most important thing is to have your son treated by a medical doctor.
