Air Travel/importing cat from US to Jamaica

Question
Roberto,
Hello. I saw an older post addressing this question, but it seems as if the question was still unanswered at the time, and your link goes to a page that no longer exists. Like the previous post, I see conflicting info online. I am considering moving to Jamaica, and whether or not I can bring my cat may be the determining factor. Thanks!

Answer
Dear Mary,

I couldn't find the old post, but below is the information regarding your question:

All pets must have an Import Permit issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Veterinary Division, Hope Gardens, Kingston 6.
Tel: +1-876-977-2489/2492.
e-mail: vsd@moa.gov.jm
All pets must be inspected by a veterinarian upon arrival.

Cats and dogs, can travel as checked baggage or cargo (depending on the origin check with your airline any acceptance restrictions due to weather conditions):

- born and bred in the United Kingdom; and
- not in transit en route; and
- holding health certificate.

However animal cannot be, or ever have been, inoculated with any type of rabies vaccine.

Prohibited: cats and dogs other than the above.

If traveling with Air Jamaica note that they will no longer accept domestic pets for transportation on passenger aircraft. They will be shipped using the freighter aircraft.

Best Regards and Happy Holidays,
R. Gomes
