Air Travel/Flight Cancellation

Question
My wifes connecting flight was cancelled from Vegas to DC. She is stuck in Vegas until the next available flight tomorrow afternoon. However the airline is refusing to compensate her or in the least pay for her hotel room while she is stuck there.  Any ideas or knowledge about rules/regulations that require them to do so?

Answer
Dear Paul,

Initially what we need to determine is the cause of the cancelation.

Weather and air traffic issues can not indicate the airline responsible. Also each airline has its own policies about what it will do for delayed passengers waiting at the airport. There are no federal requirements regarding these amenities or services.

If the situation can't be resolved on the spot, you should start document your experience, gather relevant information from the airline, and prepare to file a formal complaint with the airline. You can also complaint to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Hope this helped,
Best Regards,
