Question
Dear Robert,
My girlfriend is applying for a tourist visa to travel to Austria. She was told at the Austrian embassy in Bangkok that she needs to show proof of medical insurance at the visa interview. The insurance companies that have provided price quotes have told her that there is no refund if her visa application is rejected. Is there some way she could avoid losing her insurance money ($300-400) if she is not issued a visa? Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Answer
Dear Grant,

Although this question is outside my area of expertise, I believe that the insurance itself it is not connected with the issuance of the visa. It is a separated contract, so therefore has its own rules.

Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
R. Gomes
