Question
QUESTION: Dear Roberto,

I am a nigerian national travelling on kenya airways from dubai to lagos via nairobi.

The layover between flights in nairobi is 12 hours, even though I'm travelling business class, the lounge is not appealing for that amount of time. Am I entitled a hotel room/ meals?

Thank you

ANSWER: Dear Dayo,

I checked Kenya Airways website and found out two flights from Nairobi to Lagos. You probably have a reservation on the second flight that leaves Nairobi at 715PM. Since this one was the chosen one, you're not entitled to have a room on your layover.

Two things you may consider doing:

1. Try to confirm a seat on the first flight which leaves Nairobi at 715AM.
2. Ask the airline for suggestions about what they can offer to minimize your long layover.

Hope this helps.
Best Regards,

QUESTION: Thank you very much, your answer was very helpful.

My flight from dubai actually lands at 7.15am so I guess that why the travel agent picked the later flight. Does the fact that I land too late to catch the connecting flight make a difference?

Also I was wondering if you would know if I (a nigerian) would require visa to go into town for the period of my layover? if I could do a walkabout in town that would help the time go by.

Look forward to hearing from you and thanks again.

Answer
Dear Dayo,

In your case visa for Kenya is not required if:
- continuing by same or first connecting aircraft; and
- holding confirmed onward/return reservation and entry
documents required for next destination; and
- not leaving the airport (hotel not available at the
 airport).

So due to the fact that you'll be landing at 715AM, be prepared to be in the airport all day long, or try to change your reservation to arrive in  Nairobi to catch the 715AM departure to Lagos.

Best Regards,
R. Gomes
