Air Travel/entry to the US with a green card

Question
Dear Roberto,

I am wondering if you would be able to help me with these 2 questions:

1. I am a Russian citizen with a valid green card. Is green card enough to enter the US traveling back from Russia? Or having a valid Russian passport is obligatory as well?

2.And just for my knowledge, if green card gets lost can one reenter the US with a valid Russian passport and a copy of a green card?

Thank you very much for your help!

Masha

Answer
Dear Masha,

Below is the results from your query replied by Timatic, information sourced and provided by Iata (International Air Transport Association):

National Russian Federation (RU)/Residence U.S.A. (US)
Embarkation Russian Federation (RU)
Destination U.S.A. (US)

1.Passport required.
- Those residing in the U.S.A. may enter with travel documents
 valid on arrival.

Passport Exemptions:
- Residents of the U.S.A. if holding:
- Permanent Resident/Resident Alien Card the so called Green Card (Form I-551);

2. In February 2007, the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration introduced a re-designed "Travel Document" These passport-style booklets include the I-327, Permit to Re-enter the US issued by an US Embassy or Consulate that must be presented in case of a loss of the green card upon arrival.

Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
R.Gomes
