My family and I are flying to Chicago from Kansas City on AA and then from Chicago to Oahu on United Airlines.  I will need to check one bag.  I was wondering will I have to check and pay a fee for AA in Kansas City and then get my bag and recheck it in Chicago and pay another fee to Oahu since it is different airlines?  Or does it just go on through?

You will need to pay a fee at Kansas City if you are not an elite member.  I do believe that the fee for one checked luggage is $15.
And yes, you will need to pay another fee for United Airlines unless you are a Star Alliance Gold or Silver member.  It should be anther $15.
