Question
My family will be intransit in the US for 8 hours. We all have US visas. Would we be allowed to go out, within the airport, to greet relatives we would love to see and spend at least half of that time with?

Answer
Dear Karyn,

You are probably holding a C-1 type visa. With it, you may stay for a maximum of 29 days in the U.S. You are required to leave the U.S. on the proposed flight or ship of departure, or within 29 days, whichever is earlier.

Have your itinerary/tickets printed to present to the US Immigration Officer just in case he asked.
Of course the above it's the normal procedure, but ultimately will be up to him/her to decide what to do.
