Air Travel/fare diff

Question
I frequently fly from Los Angeles to Bangkok and its amazing to see the difference in air fare over the given year. While Thai air is the only non-stop flight, its still far more expensive than the others. Me being fat, premium econ is a better way to go, but the price is around twice than the other airlines econ ticket. Anyway, my question is; why does Asian airfare go up so much in the summer when its hot as hell there, then drop during the winter when all the hotel rates rise significantly? Please let me know your thoughts.

Answer
Well, summer is the time for most favorable overall.  I am flying to Japan in the winter this coming December and I know that it was a bit cheaper than summer.  However, I think you should take Asiana or Korean Air if we look at the leg space/personal space.  The only airline I know that is bad for personal space is JAL (Japan Airlines) and ANA (All Nippon Airways) You can try to ask/request an exit row or something to ensure more legroom.

I never went on Thai Airways but I know they are very good.
You can try going to discount airfare websites or like H.I.S. Travel Agents/AAA.
