Question
Is there a federal maximum layover time between connecting flights within the US?  I was told by an agent for Air Tran that if the layover was over 4 hours it could not be considered a valid connection.  Therefore 2 separate tickets must be purchased for the trip even though the return on the same route was 1 ticket(and much cheaper).

Answer
Dear Barbara,

I checked the Air Tran's Contract of Carriage and I didn't find anything related to this.
Therefore they will need to appoint where is such regulation.
