Question
I have a Russian friend traveling to the Bahamas; the flight goes thru JFK airport,NYC. The layover is 4 hours before the flight departs for the Bahamas. Is a transit visa necessary from US customs or can she simply wait in the airport for the connecting flight?

Answer
Dear Tony,

All Russian citizens needs a visa either to enter or to transit the US on the way to a 3rd country. This visa C1 allows to transit the USA to a third country as long as this trip is 29 days or less and then enter again to transit, as long as this trip also takes 29 days or less.

Best Regards,
