Hi Kenske F.,
Flying to Punta Cana, DR in Jan. 2012. Airfare right now seems high to me. Prices are from $536.00 to $566. Does that seems reasonable to you? And...are airfare consolidators on line reputable? Or should we just purchase thru the tried and true?

May I suggest you wait a bit due to the fact that your travels are more than 6 months away.  

You can try cheapoair.com or any other online travel companies to find deals.  Look for any promo codes too.
Be flexible with dates and airlines.  Fly with some partner airlines too like Star Alliance/Skyteam/OneWorld.
