Question
We will be flying from Tucson via AMerica West and then to LA to get on CHina airlines to go to the Philippines. America West would only allow 50 lbs for our checked luggage and China Airlines will let us cary 70 lbs. We have flown from here before with United and American and did not have any problems. We talked to the folks at the ticket counter at the aiport and they will only let us check-in 50 lbs regardless of our final destinaltion. Do we have any recourse on this matter? Who do we need to talk to? Thanks.

Answer
Dear Mike,

The only chance that you have to consolidate the two different baggage allowances lies in one single interline ticket, i.e. one single contract. Probably you have one ticket Tucson-LA issued by America West and another issued by China Airlines with the international segment, which means two different contracts each with its own rules and obligations. Regardless of that, America West can check your baggage thru LA to your destination in China.
Same will be applying on your way back.

Hope this helps,
Best Regards,
R. Gomes
