Air Travel/Infants flying free

Question
Hi there, I live in New Zealand and my wife and I are planning to travel to England. We are expecting a son in January. How young does he have to be to fly free on airlines that fly from New Zealand to Europe, particularly Qantas. Cheers.

Answer
Dear Craig,

Initially, congratulations for the upcoming baby.
Since these flights are very long, depending on the destination in Europe, they can last 24 or more hours, I would like to advise you to wait a few weeks before exposing your baby to a flight like this.

On Qantas, infants under 2 without a seat pay 10% of the adult fare and infants under 2 with a seat pay 75% of the adult fare.

On Air New Zeland, infants under 2 without a seat pay 10% of the adult fare.

Last, depending on the airline chosen, if applicable to your nationality, a US transit visa is required.

Best Regards,
