Air Travel/Layover in LAX

Question
We have a layover of 6 hours in LAX.  Flying on Delta, then catching Hawaiian to HNL.  My question is we are going to have to exit out of Security to claim our baggage.  We would want to check our baggage w/ Hawaiian Air as soon as possible so we can get back thru Security to have access to all restaurants/shops/etc....  Can we check in w/ Hawaiian @ 11:30a thus getting rid of our luggage, when our flight doesn't depart to HNL until 4:55p?

Answer
You should NOT need to claim your baggage in LAX.  Nearly all airlines have what we call an "inter-line agreement" whereby airlines cooperate and direct each other's baggage to the partner airline.

The only exception I know of is Southwest, who does their own thing.

If there is not inter-line agreement between Delta and Hawaiian, then you can check-in with Hawaiian early to get rid of your baggage.

I just cannot imagine that Delta would not have a partnership with Hawaiian.  I think you have nothing to worry about.
