Air Travel/Normal economy airfare

Question
Dear Roberto

How would you define "normal economy airfare"?  Is it solely those airfares indicated as "Y class"?  Or, can "Y2" be considered as "normal economy"

Peter

Answer
Dear Peter,

A normal economy airfare is highest fare and due to this has no restrictions and uses designators such as Y and Y1 and reservation codes Y. A Y2 fare has some restrictions and can use other reservation code (B for example).

Fares are set on bilateral agreements between governmental air authorities and participant carriers normally provide on such meetings economic justification in support of the proposed levels. Under these circumstances, authorities from both sides condition the approval of the agreement to require that such direct-service normal economy fares shall be no higher than the applicable regulatory ceilings, and that each carrier, when filing tariffs implementing the agreement, must provide a comparison of its proposed direct-service normal economy fares against the base levels.

Hope this can clarify.

Best Regards,

R.Gomes
