Air Travel/Northwest xlling flights - I'm flying on airmiles and meeting elderly parent

Question
in 2 weeks, I will be making many connections on a "free" (airmile) ticket via Northwest, who is currently in the news for cancelling flights. I will be meeting my sister and elderly mother, also flying northwest.  Given all of the controversy with NWA right now, would you advise buying a ticket on an alternate airline? What is NWA's responsibility to us if they cancel our flights?  They fly out of Canada to Minneapolis then Springfield. I fly Grand Rapids-Detroit-Memphis-Springfield.  This all takes place 8/13 (Monday!!)  HELP!!

Answer
MJP,

Since your "redemption ticket" has no commercial value and does not any fare on it, NWA (just like any other airline in the same situation) in case of cancellation of any flight of your itinerary will accommodate you in its next available flight. I strongly recommend you to buy a refundable alternate ticket with other airline.

Hope you won't find any problems.
Best Regards,
R. Gomes
