Question
Dear Roberto , i am sending this to ask you about flying on an airline with fishing gear , how do i pack a fishing tackle box so i can get it either thru checked baggage or should i carry it on , even thru it will have fish hooks and other items used for fishing , do i have to wrap it like a mail type package and put it with our luggage or what , i flown before but never with my fishing gear , can you please email me soon we fly in a few weeks . Thank you

Answer
Dear Greg,

You won't be authorized to carry it with you. You will need to check it and provide a suitable packing, i.e. strong enough to protect your equipment. An innitial idea is to check with a sporting goods store if they have a box for your equipment.

Normally the allowance and requirements are:

- rods and reels contained in a case and one bag with fishing tackle, landing net and fishing boots.

Cost:

Two pieces - fishing rod case and fishing equipment bag are free in place of one 62 inch bag;

Maximum size and weight:

Fishing rod case 50 lbs/115 inches, equipment bag 50 lbs/62 inches;

Additional information:

For purposes of excess baggage, two pieces count as 1 item.

Please contact you airline to check if the above mentioned applies.

Best Regards and good luck with the fishes !
